When politicians and their supporters look for examples of strong defenders of freedom and our Constitution they can look no further than Grover Cleveland and his mountain of vetoes. Both of our major parties should take a look at Cleveland’s actions.

[Of President Grover Cleveland's 584 vetoes, that of the "Texas Seed Bill" (February 16, 1887) may be the most famous. Members of Congress wanted to help suffering farmers in the American West, but Cleveland rejected their bill, citing the limited mission of the general government and arguing that private charity and already-existing government programs should furnish the necessary aid.]

Grover Cleveland portrait

Stephen Grover Cleveland (1837–1908)

To the House of Representatives:

I return without my approval House bill number 10203, entitled “An Act to enable the Commissioner of Agriculture to make a special distribution of seeds in drought-stricken counties of Texas, and making an appropriation therefor.”

It is represented that a long-continued and extensive drought has existed in certain portions of the State of Texas, resulting in a failure of crops and consequent distress and destitution.

Though there has been some difference in statements concerning the extent of the people’s needs in the localities thus affected, there seems to be no doubt that there has existed a condition calling for relief; and I am willing to believe that, notwithstanding the aid already furnished, a donation of seed grain to the farmers located in this region, to enable them to put in new crops, would serve to avert a continuance or return of an unfortunate blight.

And yet I feel obliged to withhold my approval of the plan as proposed by this bill, to indulge a benevolent and charitable sentiment through the appropriation of public funds for that purpose.

Raymond Eugene “Gene” Green, born October 17, 1947, is a Democratic politician and a representative in the U.S. House of Representatives.  He’s a congressman from the state of Texas, representing Texas in the U.S. House of Representatives’ Texas 29th congressional district. The district includes most of eastern Houston, along with large portions of Houston’s eastern suburbs.

==Biography and career==

Green graduated from the University of Houston, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1971.  He earned a law degree in 1977. He held positions as a business manager and a private attorney prior to his election to Congress.

Green was first elected to the  Texas House of Representatives in 1972. Green rose to the Texas State Senate in 1985 and to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1992. Although the 29th was then and now drawn as a majority-Hispanic district, Green finished second in the five-way Democratic primary, behind Houston City Councilman, Ben Reyes. Green defeated Reyes in the runoff by only 180 votes, all but assuring him of election in this heavily Democratic district. Green has been re-elected six times, never facing substantive Republican Party opposition. The Republicans didn’t even bother to file a candidate against him in 1998, 2002 or 2004??  Good boy, Gene-o. Read the rest of this entry »

Globalist Snob Rothkopf Says Town Hall Demonstrators Are Morons

Kurt Nimmo

August 13, 2009

David Rothkopf, managing director of Kissinger and Associates and CFR member, has published an op-ed in the globalist propaganda periodical Foreign Policy.

rothkopf2

David Rothkopf thinks you’re an idiot for protesting against Obamacare.

“America has been suffering an outbreak of especially virulent and acute stupidity recently,” writes Rothkopf. “It has been particularly manifest at town hall meetings devoted to ‘discussions’ of health care reform in which incensed Republicans scream at the top of their lungs about provisions that are not actually in any of the legislation under consideration — for example the so-called ‘death panels’ that would have bureaucrats deciding when to pull the plug on ‘grandma’ (as President Obama characterized it yesterday).”

It is not clear if Rothkopf has read the legislation. Under Section 1233 of HR 3200, entitled “Advance Care Planning Consultation,” practitioners must explain “the continuum of end-of-life services and supports available, including palliative care and hospice,” in other words the government will be in the business of recommending euthanasia in order to “bend the curve” on health care costs, as Charles Lane noted in The Washington Post.

How to wreck a really good country in 40 easy steps
By:  HALC.us staff
[Editorial by HALC.us staff member, which in no way represents the opinions of the entire staff, just the author.]

  1. Control their water (ever gone more than a day without drinking water??);
  2. Control their food (ya gotta eat sometime, right??);
  3. Tell them what kind of structures they can or cannot put on their land.  If you let them do something to their own land, make them pay you some money for permission of what they want to do with it.  If you don’t like them or their plan, keep their money but don’t give them the permit;
  4. Make them rent their land that may have been paid off and in the family for 100 yrs.  Do this every year, in ever-increasing rates and dollar values;                                                                                                                                                                 Read the rest of this entry »

Texas colleges and universities are in murky legal waters when they give instate tuition to illegal aliens while discriminating against US citizens [1], according to an opinion issued by the Texas Attorney General on July 27th.

I wanted to pass along this good news resulting from the tireless work of patriotic State Rep. Leo Berman, who kept pushing when others might have given up:

Illegal Immigrants May Pay Full Tuition Price

By ADAM RUSSELL

Leo Berman

Leo Berman

Rep. Leo Berman, R-Tyler, said he has won a battle against illegal immigrants within the state regarding in-state tuition benefits with an opinion rendered Thursday night (July 27th) by the state attorney general’s office.

Berman said despite his struggles to push immigration legislation during the recently convened legislative session, an opinion he filed more than a year ago will begin addressing benefits reserved for citizens.

It means at least we have won one case finally,” he said. “We tried to pass a lot of (immigration) bills this past session, and they were denied because of an agreement that was made with the Democrats at the beginning of the session not to hear any bills dealing with illegal aliens.”

One of the bills would have repealed in-state tuition benefits for undocumented immigrants, he said, but died along with other legislation.

“The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out
of other people’s money.”

—Margaret Thatcher

http://s.wsj.net/public/resources/images/OB-EF753_Mackey_G_20090811192058.jpgWith a projected $1.8 trillion deficit for 2009, several trillions more in deficits projected over the next decade, and with both Medicare and Social Security entitlement spending about to ratchet up several notches over the next 15 years as Baby Boomers become eligible for both, we are rapidly running out of other people’s money. These deficits are simply not sustainable. They are either going to result in unprecedented new taxes and inflation, or they will bankrupt us.

While we clearly need health-care reform, the last thing our country needs is a massive new health-care entitlement that will create hundreds of billions of dollars of new unfunded deficits and move us much closer to a government takeover of our health-care system. Instead, we should be trying to achieve reforms by moving in the opposite direction—toward less government control and more individual empowerment. Here are eight reforms that would greatly lower the cost of health care for everyone:

  • Remove the legal obstacles that slow the creation of high-deductible health insurance plans and health savings accounts (HSAs). The combination of high-deductible health insurance and HSAs is one solution that could solve many of our health-care problems. For example, Whole Foods Market pays 100% of the premiums for all our team members who work 30 hours or more per week (about 89% of all team members) for our high-deductible health-insurance plan. We also provide up to $1,800 per year in additional health-care dollars through deposits into employees’ Personal Wellness Accounts to spend as they choose on their own health and wellness.Money not spent in one year rolls over to the next and grows over time. Our team members therefore spend their own health-care dollars until the annual deductible is covered (about $2,500) and the insurance plan kicks in. This creates incentives to spend the first $2,500 more carefully. Our plan’s costs are much lower than typical health insurance, while providing a very high degree of worker satisfaction.

Conservatives across America are rising up to protest Obama’s plans to socialize our health care system.  There’s much more at stake, however, than just being able to choose our own doctor. Liberals know how important this battle is, which is why they’re calling the protesters racists.  If they can intimidate us into silence on this issue, they know there’s no stopping Obama’s socialist juggernaut. If we don’t win this fight, the implications are more frightening than many people realize.

The full report:

In 1973 there was a Charlton Heston movie called Soylent Green, which depicted a nightmarish future for Americans, especially the elderly.  In the film, America is massively overpopulated and resources are scarce.  Food riots are common, and old people are seen as nothing but useless eaters, a burden on society which must be removed.  In response, the government opens up euthanasia clinics to solve the problem.  Such a bleak future is hard to envision, but some of the rhetoric we’re hearing with regard to Obamacare protesters is truly frightening.

All over America, members of the Silent Majority are turning out in droves to oppose Obama’s plans to nationalize the health care system in the name of compassion for the less fortunate.  Many of the protesters are the same folks who stayed home during the November elections because they saw no real differences between Obama and McCain.  The energy that’s being unleashed in opposition to socialized medicine clearly demonstrates that if the GOP had offered up a truly conservative candidate, we would no doubt have a Republican in the White House today.

At Sheila Jackson Lee’s (D-TX) Wednesday town hall meeting, attendee. Tracy Miller, addressed her concerns about HR3200 (America’s Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009). During her comments Jackson-Lee received a call and proceeded to answer and have a conversation!

This incident quickly spread and Sheila appeared on Fox News with Greta van Susteren to explain her position. Tracy Miller is now responding by inviting her congresswoman to an open debate on HR 3200! Spread the word!

To further demonstrate the type of person Houston has representing her constituents, watch this clip of CNN’s Rick Sanchez attempting to get a simple answer from Jackson-Lee about her cell phone usage. She literally ignores the question filibustering her time on the show. Regardless of political party, this type of behavior from elected officials is unacceptable.

William Kostric appeared at a New Hampshire Obama town-hall bearing a pistol on his thigh. He had a license to open-carry and had been approved to be there by the Sheriff and Secret service. Our friends at MSNBC, however, completely flipped out.

My favorite quote, “My question is, why cant we get rid of him NOW?” Of course, each anchor makes not-so-subtle suggestions that Kostric is likely a racist assassin.

Chris Matthews hosted Kostric in a follow up interview on Hardball and Kostric handled himself exceptionally. Matthews repeatedly attempts to corner Kostric and marginalize him by asking him about his views on Obama’s presidential legitimacy (are you a birther) before attempting to frame the argument against gun rights.

Kostric does a great job re-framing the conversation while staying calm, demonstrating his well reasoned positions.

Do a quick search for William Kostric and you’ll find a slew of liberal blogs painting him as a home grown terrorist. Some, like the Daily Kos, go as far as actually tagging the story as such.

Daily Kos uses tags to slander William Kostric

I find it extremely disturbing that the very fear many had about the previous administration’s loose use of “enemy combatant” suddenly becomes O.K. when it’s someone you don’t agree with.

Sounds like a witch hunt is brewing.
