As Tuesday’s statewide primary approaches, Texans are trying to decide who to cast ballots for.

In the Republican primary, Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison and Debra Medina are facing off; in the Democratic primary, Bill White is going head-to-head with Farouk Shami.

While all the candidates have pros and cons, The Daily Cougar sees Medina and White as the best of the five on both sides of the coin.

“I’m not a politician, and I’m certainly not rich,” Medina said in a recently released television advertisement. Medina claims to be an average citizen and, by that account, vows to pay attention to the needs and rights of the average citizen in Texas. Her support has tripled since her Jan. 14 televised debate against Perry and, because of this, we have a feeling that Texans have taken a strong liking to her.

We have, too.

An old-timey favorite peanut and popcorn snack food had as their advertising slogan many years ago, “When you’re really good, they call you Cracker Jack.”  I’d like to borrow from this and update it to say, “When you’re really good, they do a positive You Tube video and original song about you and the video jumps from 500 hits to 1,000 in one day!!”

“…Here’s what we’re talking about,
Texas and this country need new leadership fast,
And of that, there’s no room for doubt.

…Deb’s the one, who’s gonna do what they say can’t be done…
A true grassroots, peoples’ candidate ….
I’ll be twanging my guitar for …
Debra, the new sweetheart of the Lone Star State…

We’ve got the power to change the way it is,
Shout it out so that freedom can ring….
We can bring about most anything…
with a vision that is second to none…”

A group identified as “The Guerilla Effect” just released their parody of the Texas Gubernatorial race. The video is a bit long (23 minutes) but offers a rolling mix of overt and subtle humor. It appears no candidate was spared ridicule however we couldnt help notice that Medina’s criticisms stem largely from her pro-gun stance and simply knowing too much about every topic.

Texas Gubernatorial Debate 3 from guerilla.effect on Vimeo.

Rick Perry seems portrayed as a Bush-like frat boy more concerned about condescending to the questioneers and his hair than answering the questions and Kay Bailey Hutchinson gets featured as a soft-spoken follower, with no real opinions of her own.

The video borders on offensive in some cases when Kay is playing a hand-held video game entitled Fetus Flush 2 or when the video’s “host” Billy Kerboppler seems to do all of his scenes without pants on. However, the video is sure to make you smile and even laugh all the way through.

Our favorite part: Medina’s epic speech starting around 10 min 10 sec.

Things are changing rapidly in the race for the GOP nomination for governor of Texas as the March 2nd primary approaches.  Not long ago, it looked like a typical two person race.  That’s no longer the case, as Debra Medina has come out of nowhere to mount a serious challenge to both Rick Perry and Kay Bailey Hutchison, and a vote for Medina would send a shock wave through both Austin and DC.  Medina is now in second place in some polls, so there is no way a vote for her is “wasted”.

She is a serious candidate deserving serious consideration by all who consider themselves conservatives.

Read below for my analysis of why every Rick Perry voter should consider switching their vote to Debra Medina.

Full report:

The Texas primaries are rapidly approaching, and as we get closer to the March 2nd date, the race for the GOP gubernatorial nomination has changed dramatically in just the past few weeks. Debra Medina, a virtual unknown in Texas, has come out of nowhere to throw a real monkey wrench into the race.  Late last year, her support Read the rest of this entry »

The 2010 Texas Governor’s race is arguably the most influential race in America. Texas is the largest conservative leaning state in the union and this implies that if Texas sets a good example then states may be willing emulators.

I first met Debra back in 2007 while standing in for proper leadership of the grassroots movement in Beaumont. She gladly drove the long trek to help remedy our hopelessly deep ignorance of grass roots politics.

Though she was knowledgeable, it was clear that she was merely just one of us, not having anything remotely akin to political super powers or that larger-than-life verve politicians often have. The only thing obvious about her was her sincerity.

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
And I think to myself what a wonderful world.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces of people going by
I see friends shaking hands saying how do you do
They’re really saying I love you.

I hear babies cry, I watch them grow
They’ll learn much more than I’ll never know
And I think to myself what a wonderful world
Yes I think to myself what a wonderful world.

Our friends at Ron Paul Forums have started an impromptu mini money bomb for Debra Medina today stating:

It’s Friday, pay day. Debra Medina did very well in the debate last night and deserves your support to get her message to Texans. The media is already declaring her the winner.

One of the Forum Bombers in the thread says, “Keep it up! She said on the radio today that she has raised 25K since the debate last night.”

Thanks to all of you who are donating money, time, and resources to get Debra Medina elected the next Governor of Texas.

Below the double line is a dialogue between Debbie, who is involved in Debra Medina’s campaign and Jill, a firm Rick Perry supporter.  Debbie’s comments are in lavender, her personal thoughts in light teal and Jill’s comments are in black.

=================

I mentioned 11 objections I had to Perry and she replied to a few of them.  You can scroll down and see how we started the conversation.  It’s not terribly long.  This might help some of you who have asked for talking points for Perry supporters. Feel free to use this or pass it along.  I removed her surname and address out of consideration.  Thanks Read and Julia for the input.

Thanks for your reply, Jill.

My replies are in color inserted below.

Here’s how I look at it and this is strictly my personal opinion:

I’m not going to agree with every candidate I support completely.  Heck, I don’t agree with my mother or husband 100% of the time but on the non-negotiable issues like pro-life, I do!

On the Gardasil and Transcorridor issues I call Perry a “Responsive Leader” because when he heard how we felt about them, he backed off.  That is more than I can say for those in Washington or KBH!

There was an outraged uproar – by the legislature AND the people!  Actually, Perry did NOT back off.  The legislature passed a bill overriding his executive order.  Perry didn’t even sign that into law and instead let it pass without signature.   He lost all credibility in my eyes when he issued that mandate.   Stepping out and mandating something that should be a private decision for parents and young women.  He cannot consider himself pro-life after doing that.  Girls died, girls were left permanently disabled, and sterilized.  Young women have had repeated miscarriages since getting the shot.  It’s really horrific.  Research it for yourself.  Did you get the shot?

The TTC is not dead, it’s been broken up and renamed, but the basic project is still in the works.  Check out http://www.nascocorridor.com/ It is indeed alive and well.  This is a corporation that is still working on it that has offices here in DFW.
